A video stirring up the writer in you!

I happen to come across a video uploaded on Youtube wherein Deepika Padukone, her mother, her counselor and her psychiatrist were interviewed by Barkha Dutt on her road to making her life better (as how I see it; so chose to call it bettering your life as against fighting depression! or various other forms of mind ailments) and how her family and friends provided the support system she required during that phase of her life. I was captivated by the video and thought of sharing it on Facebook with a motive of making the cause viral and not just the video. So, I tagged Mr. Narendra Modi on the post and sort of wrote a letter to him and the mass by trying to leverage the power of social media.I had asked him a question Here goes the letter...

Dear Mr. PM (or should I say people handling his social media),

Can you make a trip to Tier-2,3,4,etc cities, towns, villages, etc of our country and educate the general public/mass about why this should no more be a stigma/ taboo in our country. For 1, Eradicating this stigma may not reduce the number of cases of depression drastically but would definitely reduce the cases of suicides caused by it in our country (Perhaps, more so because Indian men are twice susceptible to suicide caused by the ailment as per the video).

Let's not lose another soul (both physically and socially) who is fighting or otherwise with this or against this. Let's be open to this issue that is so grave and is in dire need of attention (of those who dismiss this) and solid work towards its mitigation and eventual eradication.

I chose to share this video as a medium of communicating this because I believe if her one video of her choice can make a rage in the country, then this issue demands and commands commitment from everyone in our country (including those who are going through this) not to ignore this.

I chose to tag you Mr. PM because of the obvious reasons that I read about on social media, hear on news channels and I chose to specifically ask you to physically visit these places and talk about it to people and not just oration on radio considering the impact of your trips to other nations are bringing to our country.

Optimistically,
A gritty citizen

  1. Most of the time such people are looked down upon with sympathy. They need ur empathy, ur support. I have seen it very closely and have seen how it can be cured only if u put urself in thr shoes. It does wonders.
